Democracy Belongs to Us.

At Partnerships for Integrity (P4I), we are working alongside courageous civic actors, reformers, and institutions to defend democratic systems and cultures, and to strengthen integrity in some of the world’s most challenging environments.

At a moment when democracy is under pressure everywhere, from shrinking civic space to rising authoritarianism and conflict, our partners and we are not giving up. We know that peace, justice, and dignity depend on it.

Across regions and sectors, our work focuses on supporting local leadership, strengthening accountability, and amplifying voices that are too often marginalized.

Below are a few highlights from our mostrecent work.

Nepal: New Partnerships, Local Leadership

With historic elections in Nepal only days away, we launched a new partnership with Accountability Lab Nepal and are supporting grassroots youth leadership and civic engagement, including the work of Manish and his team. Next steps: post-election support for effective governance.

Africa (Regional): Electoral Justice Proceedings and Trust

With international partners, P4I moderated a peer exchange among 94 African judges, from Senegal to Madagascar, to reflect on how judges are preparing to adjudicate complex and politically sensitive cases on the continent, and how they can bolster their communication to build trust from the public. Next steps: country-specific support for judges and courts.   

Sri Lanka: Climate Change and Inclusive Governance

In partnership with the Institute of Democratic Reforms and Electoral Studies (IRES), we advanced our work on climate change and political inclusion, highlighting how exclusion deepens climate vulnerability. Our joint research and webinar underscored the urgent need for inclusive governance to build long-term resilience and democratic legitimacy. Next steps: implementing recommendations on inclusive governance.

Palestine: Locally-owned Governance Pathways

Over the past month, we worked with partners in Palestine to deliver an action-oriented needs assessment for electoral and reform assistance, at a critical moment when Gaza’s future governance is in question, trust in the Palestinian Authority is low, civic space is restricted, and yet local elections remain one of the last functioning mechanisms of vertical accountability.

Africa (Regional): Political and Electoral Corruption

We convened the first in a new “online exchange” webinar series that connects public institutions with civil society. This first exchange focused on the newly adopted resolution of the UN Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) on enhancing transparency of political finance. This peer discussion brought together UNODC, governments, institutions, and civil society across Africa to share lessons and practical tools for implementation. Stay tuned for the next online exchange in April.  

The “So What” Series

Our new “So What” series translates complex democratic challenges into practical insights and guidance for real-world action. These concise reflections aim to move conversations from analysis to impact. Our first series focused on political finance to inform citizens of what the UN resolution on political finance means for you. Stay tuned for the next installment of the series in March.

Global Solidarity: Civic Activists Under Pressure

How do movements keep communities engaged when civic space is closing? What strategies work when formal democratic processes have failed or never existed? In early February 2026, Partnerships for Integrity (P4I) convened democracy activists from Myanmar, Palestine, and Serbia to explore these questions together. Next steps: Continue to build collective resilience across borders.

Since the start of 2026, we are delighted to have concluded new partnership agreements with trusted partners, including Accountability Lab in Nepal, Gambia Participates in The Gambia, Indigo in Côte d’Ivoire and Action Plus Guinée, Global Expertise and Fondation Solidarité Féminine in Guinea. We also now have fourteen strategic advisors from thirteen different countries (Estonia, Indonesia, The Gambia, Georgia, Guyana, Kenya, Libya, Liberia, France, Romania, Sri Lanka, Sweden and the U.S.) who have joined us to contribute to P4I’s technical and strategic leadership.
